NEBC Board Meeting notes - 11 June 2007
NEBC Board Meeting notes, 11 June 2007
Attending: Van Bares, Scott Brooks, Tami Buhr, Jean Cunningham, Bob Evans, Julian Hjortshoj, Annette Kennedy, Mark McMaster, Jim O’Connor, Cris Rothfuss, Phillip Stern
The next meeting will be on Monday 9 July, 7:30-9 p.m., Burlington Public Library.
1. Bow Road Race (5 August)
Tami reported that planning is moving along well. There’s a short patch of road that may be unpaved on race day; she will be in touch with the chief official to be sure it meets course safety criteria. Most volunteers seem to be in place though there may be a need for a volunteer coordinator; please touch base with Chuck Dopfel or Les Bethel if you can help.
2. Kids Crit (23 June)
Van noted that planning for this race also is coming along well; permits are in, as is money from sponsors. Roughly a dozen kids already have signed up via BikeReg, and there will be a mechanic on site. Rick Sladkey has volunteered to be race day coordinator. Please encourage kids (and their parents) you know to race.
3. Support for Club and Team Members
- Frames (elite teams) – The Board discussed the programs for the women’s and men’s teams; no changes are anticipated for the coming year, but they may be worth revisiting next year.
- Housing for Green Mountain Stage Race – The Board was asked to loan $1,000 to cover the deposit for a condo that will house many NEBCers during the race; there’s no apparent risk to the club, and the request was approved.
- Travel – 6 NEBCers will be traveling to Louisville later this month to compete in masters nationals; the Board approved a (modest) $100 stipend for any club member participating in national competitions during the year. The elite teams will use their existing budgets to help fund their travel.
4. Sponsorships
The sponsorship committee met to explore additional sponsorship opportunities. Providing more clarity on how sponsorship funds are used, and what we give back to sponsors, will be a goal of the group; the committee plans to meet again.
5. Time trial update
Congestion in the upper parking lot and at the start line continues to be an issue; Philip Keyes has been very helpful in dealing with the Park Service, but everyone’s help in keeping these areas clear will be appreciated – all season, and particularly for the next few weeks.
6. NEBC’s 50th Anniversary
Phillip Stern presented suggestions to help the club commemorate its anniversary:
- Time trial – Create teams of 5, and at end of season, add up best times over 10-mile CBTT course. Time frame could be July (post-Fitchburg) and August. Phillip will work out the details and launch soon.
- Party – An event for all club members, probably on a Sunday night, and perhaps end of summer (post-club championship?).
Unfortunately the library closed and we ran out of time – more to come.
