Moody Park- MTB Race Report

by Michael Good

On a perfect day for a mountain bike race, the NEBC/ CycleLoft/Devonshire Dental MTB race team headed to Claremont,NH for EFTA’s New England Championship Series race #4. The 10th annual All Out at Moody Park.

The course has never been better. It was dry and fast. Areas that in the past had been muddy and very difficult to ride were clean and rideable. The loop is just over four miles. The sport class did three laps and the experts did four.

THE RESULTS:

Michael Good Sport Vet2 1st Place
Having been sick for the last three weeks I was very unsure how my fitness was going to be. Turns out, no worries. I felt great. I entered the third lap in third place, I quickly passed one guy then passed the last guy on the hill exiting the ‘gravity cavity’. I built a 45 second gap on the last hill climb and rode the twisty downhill single track in for the win.

Cris Rothfus Womens Sport Vet 1st Place
Cris is a member of the Elite Womans road team( I didn’t ask why she wasn’t in Fitchburg) and a great cyclo-cross racer, but by the look of concern on her face before the race you wouldn’t have known it. She looked nervous. She told me that she had pre-ridden the course and she seemed worried about some of the technical sections. I wish I had a camera after the race to take a picture of the smile on her face. An ear to ear grin! I don’t know if she plans on doing any more races but she sure kicked butt.

Andy Tucker Sport Vet1 4th Place
It turns out that Andy is the rider that Keith didn’t recognize last week. Andy is new to NEBC and new to the EFTA scene. Andy’s a strong rider and we look forward to getting to know him better at the future races.

Anthony Laskaris Expert Vet2 3rd Place
Anthony keeps getting better results with each race. This time getting on the podium. Anthony called this race the funnest course he’s ever raced on!

Ted Yobaccio Expert Vet1 15th place
Ted says he suffered from a very bad case of, “bad day in the saddle” syndrome. We’ve all had it at one time or another. Ted has survived however, and plans to race another day fortunately.

The next race is this Sunday, July 8th. We’re travelling back to NH, this time to Lake Sunapee for The Horror At Harding Hill. A nice mix of logging roads and single track with some climbing and downhills. Hopefully it won’t rain too much before Sunday, this course can get muddy in places.

It’s always great seeing new faces at the races. If you come, we’re always parked together, just look for Anthony’s Cycle Loft truck. Information and directions are on EFTA’s web site.

Carpe diem!
