NEBC Named Top Women's Team of 2007

NEBC has long had a large and successful women’s program, but this year we took it to another level. NEBC was named the Top Women’s Club of 2007 by USA Cycling. The club has 100 women as members, nearly one-third of the total membership. Paula Bedard was a driving force in establishing the women’s team as tops in the region over a decade ago. Since that time, the team has enjoyed strong leadership from women such as Brooke O’Connor, Lori Whynot, Jessica Truslow, Jen Cunningham-Butler, Cathy Rowell and Tami Buhr. The women’s team has traditionally focused on developing riders into racers and has fielded large category 3 and 4 teams. In 2007, the team created an elite category 1/2 team that dominated the regional race scene and mixed it up in national level races on the East Coast. The women also stepped up their development and advocacy programs with a new weekly women’s ride on Tuesday evenings during the summer months. The ride attracted between 30 and 40 women a week, many whom were new to cycling and learned valuable group riding skills. See the USA Cycling announcement [usacycling.org]
