Winstead - Libby White - 7-18-07
The race at Winsted, CT was a smooth but hilly course. Since I was racing in the expert 0-34 catagory I had to do four laps.
I had a solid start into the singletrack and held my position for the first lap and a half. Somewhere in the last half of the second lap I fell back a place. At the end of the second lap my dad (who was in the feed zone) made me drink half a bottle of gatorade and two cups of water because it was such a hot day that he was worried about me getting dehydrated. For the third lap I was having stomach aches and dropped back another spot. By the forth lap I had absorbed all the liquids and was feeling ten times better. I came close to the girl in front of me but never passed her.
Within the last thirty seconds of the race I had a small crash. I finished the race but a little while after my knee started to hurt pretty bad. The next day I went to the hospital to get x-rays and it turns out that I had slightly fractured the bottom of my patella. I need to wear my brace for two more weeks or so. So, if your wondering where I am, I can’t go to many of the races or practices until cyclocross season. Bummer!
